To have a vocation to Religious Life is to be called by God in a special way to proclaim the joy of the Gospel to the people of our time.
It is a call to be love at the heart of the church and the world of today.
For us, as Poor Servants of the Mother of God, it is rooted in the spirit of the Incarnation, a response to God’s love for all humanity.
It is a life powered by the three vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, and rooted in prayer and community life.
It is a call to serve God joyfully when and wherever there is real need in our world today.
We are bearers of the dream of our Foundress, Mother Magdalen. She was captivated by the awesomeness and challenge of the Incarnation. She wished her Sisters to respond with their whole lives to the generosity of the God who left everything to become one of us.
“God will have our hearts love and the whole of it”, she cried. For her, this was the only response worthy of the gift of the Incarnation.
She believed that we are given the hands of Christ to work with, the heart of Christ to love with, and the mind of Christ to illumine the world. We do this through our ministries of Health Care, Education and Pastoral Care.
She had a profound respect for the dignity of every person and desired that all service should be given cheerfully and generously.
“God will have our hearts love and the whole of it.”
“Finding God in all things”
Our spirituality is rooted in the legacy of St Ignatius, who saw God at work powerfully in our own ordinariness. He called it “finding God in all things”. For St Ignatius and for us all, it is done for the greater glory of God.
What is Ignatian Spirituality?
Ignatian spirituality is a spirituality for everyday life. It claims that God is present in our world and active in our lives. It’s a pathway to deeper prayer, leads to good decision-making, is guided by zealous discernment, and supports an active life of service to others.
Ignatian spirituality is rooted in the certainty that God is active, personal, and—most of all— is present to us.
A key aspect of Ignatian spirituality: its claim that God is totally immersed everywhere—in al our activities, relationships, culture, the intellectual life, all creation itself. To quote Ignatius, the whole world is gifted to us “so that we can know God more easily and make a return of love more readily.”
Ignatian spirituality places unlimited weight on discerning God’s presence in the day-to-day activities of our ordinary lives.
