There is a transfiguration awaiting all of us, but only after some suffering and pain. But after that is over, we will be changed. We will be glorious like Christ.
We pray in this mystery to understand the role of suffering in our lives, and we ask that we, like Christ may one day “shine like stars for all eternity.”

God is calling all of us to follow him, and to do our best in his service. The kingdom of God is so close, it is within us. Let us give him a heart wholly his.

How thoughtful Our Lady was! In our prayer, let us ask her for that sensitivity to the needs of others which she had.

Mysteries of Light: Jesus is Baptised in the Jordan
See Our Lord with a bowed head, receiving Baptism from John.
John was “filled with joy” by the Holy Spirit in the womb to see Jesus. How does he feel now? Stay with Jesus and talk to him as you pray. We hear the words, “This is my beloved son”, and we bow in reverence before him.

Let us look at Our Lord as he moves slowly and painfully under the weight of his heavy cross. He was weak and exhausted from suffering and loss of blood. He falls to the ground, but the brutal men who hurry him on only wait with impatience to see him raised on the cross.

Here, the “shoot springing from the stock of Jesse”, that Isaiah speaks about, yields his body, his innocence – the fragrant flower above – to the brutality and senseless cruelty of the soldiers. But we know it was his choice, so all we can say is “thank you”.

But they knew, as Simeon and Anna knew, that this baby was “set for the rise and fall of many in Jerusalem” – a rich gleaning indeed. Pray today for the gift of discernment, to see what is real and what is transitory.

Mary went to Elizabeth to share her good news and to help the older woman during her pregnancy. What a wonderful meeting of young and old, of babies unborn and the silent onlooker, Zachary. I do so want this year to be one of progress for us all, for you know very well that progress in outward things – a grand church, for instance - would be nothing if we did not advance in spirit. The things I want for you in the future are devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Devotedness to others, particularly to those in need. Mind that.
She wanted all our service to come from love, not duty. Let’s pray for that today.

I trust you are all renewed in spirit and ready to run the race set before us with more courage and zeal than before. This year of Jubilee ought to encourage us to do better, and to be animated by that spirit of joy which makes everything light to us and glorifies God the more.
