Celebrating Forty Years of Service in East Africa

Those Sisters, who forty years ago made a journey into what was the unknown, little did they imagine that from such small beginnings in Mutito, Kenya, a new and powerfully vibrant branch of the PSMG Congregation would sprout and flourish.

The Congregation, which works in social, pastoral, healthcare and education ministries, established its presence in the East African nation four decades ago and on 27th September 2025, celebrated this important milestone, the Ruby Anniversary of its foundation.

What is perhaps more remarkable, is that those first PSMG Sisters who came to Kenya, came without any notion or intention of ‘recruiting’ young women to the PSMG vocation and formation life. Yet their work was observed and it inspired and captivated the hearts and minds of young women, who likewise wanted to devote their lives to serving God. In less than a decade of their presence in Kenya, in 1994 two young women began their formation journey as postulants in Mutito, both former pupils of Mutito Girls’ Secondary School and taught by PSMG Sisters. Thirty years later, they are both finally professed Sisters in the Congregation.

From that very humble beginning, the PSMG mission and vocations have grown and spread to other dioceses, and in 202?? , a new mission was founded in Tanzania. The Sisters’ invaluable work to help the poor and marginalised continues.
