First Vows Ceremony - Kenya
Saturday 15th August 2026 was a truly joyous occasion for the PSMG Congregation; we were blessed to receive the First Vows of eight young women, a number that has grown steadily over the years. After a period of prayer, discernment, formation and preparation, as well as an eight-day Retreat, Sisters Annmary, Brenda, Carol, Irene, Jacinta, Nelly, Nancy and Philomina freely expressed their desire to consecrate their lives to God. The celebration was a significant moment of grace for the newly professed Sisters, their families and all those who participated in the ceremony.
Sixty relatives of the Sisters making their vows arrived in Mwingi on Friday, in addition to many Sisters from other SMG communities in Kenya and Tanzania, together with two members of the General Council from United Kingdom - Srs. Mary Holmes and Munanie Syengo. They were warmly welcomed amid great excitement, with singing and dancing by the Sisters, novices and postulants.
The Sisters’ creativity was called upon to decorate the church and compound, and the result was a beautiful transformation, adding to the atmosphere of festivity.
On Saturday 15th August, the day of the First Vows ceremony, Morning Prayer at 6.30am was led by Sr. Maryanne, followed by breakfast and later, a group photo for all SMG Sisters outside the parish church.
Due to the large attendance of Sisters and relatives, the Profession ceremony was held in the parish church. The Profession Mass was concelebrated by a number of priests from the home parishes of the Sisters. The chief celebrant was the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Peter Muvea. Sr. Mary Holmes received the vows on behalf of Sr. Margaret Cashman, Superior General.
May God grant the newly professed Sisters the grace of fidelity and joyful service as they serve in the different Communities to which they were missioned. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, accompany them throughout their religious journey and help them to live their consecration faithfully according to the Charism of the Poor Servants of the Mother of God.
