POOR SERVANTS OF THE MOTHER OF GOD

146 YEARS OF SOWING SEEDS OF PROPHETIC HOPE IN CARRIGTWOHILL, CO. CORK, IRELAND

Joy, energy, colour, vitality were the outward manifestations as the people of the Carrigtwohill area gathered to show their  appreciation of SMG presence and service since 1875.

On 7th June, twenty seven Sisters were able to be present at the Mass of Thanksgiving which was followed by a civic reception in the local community hall. The event was organised by a committee of parishioners.

The church decorations for Mass, the choirs, the choice of readers, of readings and of symbols all spoke of care. The communication networks were certainly effective in reaching a dispersed group of people, who made full use of the opportunity to interact and reminisce after enjoying delicious refreshments and first class entertainment. Among the participants were family members of some Sisters, both living and deceased.

Mr. Anthony Barry represented the county mayor. The speeches of appreciation were a humbling experience for us SMGs.  Sr. Rosarii was presented with a beautiful painting of Barryscourt Castle, being viewed by some nuns. In her replying words she stressed that Sisters can never minister in isolation. And so she thanked all the wider community who, through the ages, enabled us to live our commitment to Christ, the church and society.
