The Ascension
“Why is thy face so lit with smiles, O blessed mother, why?”
Mother Magdalen wrote a hymn to celebrate this event. It depicts Mary in her role as Mother of the Church. She calls Our Lady “the nursing mother of the Church, and ours”.
We pray to Mary our mother, who guided those frightened,
bewildered disciples into the confident, unafraid charismatic
leaders of the infant church they became afterwards.
We ask her to do the same for us today. And she will!
