POOR SERVANTS OF THE MOTHER OF GOD

Thought for the Day

When we were living in Mount Street, there was a little boy who used to cry out: “Hot potatoes!” in the dark nights. Mother said she would buy potatoes from the little boy the next time she heard him, for the poor little creature had a weak voice. She was sorry for him. Another time she bought two angels from a poor man who was carrying them on his head. She was so pleased to be able to help the poor.

We pray for the gift of being able to help those in need without being patronising. Mother Magdalen had a horror of what she called “giving with clean hands the alms entrusted to the poor.” We pray today for the homeless, and those crushed by unjust laws.
