Thought for the Day
5 Sr. M. Elizabeth (Bathia Deverill) (Entered 1869)
One of Mother’s first companions in Chamber St. She was received as a postulant with Mother in 1869, they received the habit together. Her outstanding virtue was love for the poor. All her last years were spent in visitation of the poor. She taught the young Sisters by her example far more than by her words, the love and respect they ought to have for them. A priest wrote of her: “My good old friend and fellow worker fairly wore herself out by her zealous labours in our parish, walking long distances when she was scarcely able to. I am happy to think that all her steps were counted for her on the road to Heaven.”
Necrology I
“She taught more by her example than by her words”. We pray for that virtue today.
