POOR SERVANTS OF THE MOTHER OF GOD

Thought for the Day

Fr. Seymour, CC Carrigtwohill

Fr. Seymour died in 1885, to the great grief of the Sisters to whom he had been the kindest of Fathers, and friend. To him indeed, “his old age was honourable.” His charity to the poor was unbounded.  In the fearful years of famine, succeeded by cholera, from which all who could, fled, Fr. Seymour stood his ground without even the doctor, and worked night and day for the souls and bodies of his flock. He had to pull off the shoes and stockings of the dying to anoint them. When children came to the parish school poorly clad, his first thought was that the Sisters should find out what was needed, and supply it at his expense. He had dinner cooked every Sunday for those poor not well provided for. He built Church, schools and Convent, but he did nothing for the presbytery. He died in his 86th year, may he rest in peace…

Say a fervent Magnificat today for this saintly priest, and pray for priestly vocations.
