November: Glimpses of Heaven – Month of the Holy Souls

Intention of the month

TO INVOKE “THAT GREAT CLOUD OF WITNESSES” WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE US

– To remember

– To give thanks

– To look forward

The falling leaves at first appear reluctant to prise themselves free from their cocoon of closeness of their roots: such a move might prove too cold, too harsh, too final, it would seem…

Yet, in their death dance they play out the ever-changing pattern of life in its colour, its vibrancy, its joy – to show us what it is to die to one life and to open up the way to the possibility of another.

Falling leaves, so beautiful, so gentle,

Dancing their goodbyes to the earth;

Dancing their joyful recognition of a newer, better life:

a kaleidoscope of colour, of vibrancy, of possibility

for greater beauty, for more fulfilled hope –

myriad witnesses to him who said:  “I have come

to bring you life, life in all its fullness”.

And they say to us: “We feel it now – that never-ending promise

of eternal joy – it is ours, it will be yours!”

Amen! Amen! – the echo of the thousands upon thousands

watching the dance of life is heard in sound and colour

beyond our imagining…
